    Why we love Hong Kong

    Hong Kong scene

Such is the vastness of China, travellers occasionally overlook a visit to Hong Kong. This is a mistake! The city state is truly an incredible place to visit, an inspiring location that will stick in your mind for years to come. First time visitors to Asia will appreciate Hong Kong as a perfect introduction to this part of the world. It is also much smaller than some other Chinese cities, making this a great destination for those looking to immerse themselves in tradition, culture and nature.

As passengers on our Beijing to Hong Kong rail cruise will tell you, there are so many things to love in Hong Kong. Here are just a few to get you started.

    Dim Sum and beyond

Experiencing China’s street food and dining culture is a must, and the same rules apply in Hong Kong. One culinary delight that just has to be indulged in when visiting Hong Kong is Dim Sum, and you’ll find some of the best dim sum houses in the world hidden in the electric city buzz.

Hong Kong dumplingsServed in bamboo steamer baskets or fried, Dim Sum is offered with a variety of fillings. You’re certain to find a flavour that tickles your taste buds, as Nataline Chui, author of TripZilla’s (@TripZillaMag) Top 10 Reasons You Need to Visit Hong Kong discovered:

“Being in Hong Kong is akin to being in the land of Dim Sum. Stepping into a Dim Sum house gives me the excitement tingles because I drool when I think of Char Siew Sou (a flaky Chinese pastry with a sweet and savoury barbecue pork filling), Har Gao (a gratifying bite-size prawn dumpling held together by ‘crystal’ skin) and Siew Mai (juicy minced meat and prawn dumpling wrapped around with wonton skin and steamed to perfection) and the many other Dim Sums one can enjoy.”

If Dim Sum isn’t your thing, you’ll be pleased to find that Hong Kong is home to a vast range of international dining options, allowing you to enjoy a taste of authentic Asia or the western food you’re more comfortable with.

    A destination for all

Hong Kong really does cater for everyone. Whether you’re travelling alone, as a couple or with the family in tow, every member of your party will find their trip utterly inspiring. Shopping addicts will delight in the wide selection of stores accessible throughout the city. From luxury boutiques to bustling markets, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

For families after a fun-filled experience, the thrills of Disneyland and Ocean Park aren’t too far away whilst the parks, temples, nature reserves and museums provide an interesting insight into Hong Kong culture.

Come night time, exploring Hong Kong doesn’t have to end. Energetic and varied, Hong Kong offers a diverse scene from clubs and even British-style pubs to hipster haunts and karaoke bars. Nightlife in Hong Kong is considered to be the best in China.

    City heights to island life

Hong Kong is an exciting place to visit and above the city, on the Peak, is where the landscape can be truly appreciated. The Peak offers unimpeded views of Hong Kong and its islands, the latter of which can be explored further to uncover some real gems as well as plenty of calmness and serenity.
