4 family friendly activities in China
China offers the chance to enjoy an epic adventure for solo travellers, couples and groups of friends. But it’s also a great destination for families travelling with children.
Whatever the ages of your children, China provides an array of family-friendly activities and attractions. Family travel in China wouldn’t be complete without including the following in your itinerary, here’s why.
Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre
The Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre is billed as a must-see when travelling with the kids. As well as being one of the best places to see pandas in China, Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre is an excellent destination to explore the history of this magnificent species and view the conservation efforts of the Chinese people first-hand.
The centre also specialises in caring for baby pandas, so be prepared for a cuteness overload! Top tip: Schedule your visit to Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre in the morning to see the pandas at their most active.
The Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre is located on Futou Mountain in northern Chengdu. Staying in the city is a must when visiting the centre and, as A China Family Adventure explains, Chengdu has so much to offer visiting families:
“Chengdu itself is a nice, lively city, very compact (for Chinese standards), with bustling street life which kids always find amusing, like this live frogs for sale at the farmer’s market. Kids will also enjoy taking a walk around ancient Jin Li Street, with its colourful market atmosphere, temples, the river and bridges. Stop at the teahouses, enjoy the peddler markets, try some tasty Sichuan dishes…”
Yangshuo Caves
Witness one of the country’s most amazing natural phenomenons by visiting Yangshuo Caves. The caves are located on the outskirts of Guilin, China’s first city, and provide a fantastic day trip for all the family.
Yangshuo Caves is a network of underground caverns, each as beautiful and awe-inspiring as the last. The limestone towers come in all shapes and sizes and have been carved naturally by the series of underground rivers and lakes that also sit under Yangshuo.
The Silver Cave is considered the most stunning. Whilst those travelling with older children will want to enjoy the refreshing mud baths of the Yangshuo Water Cave.
Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong provides a diverse and unforgettable experience just a stone’s throw away from mainland China. Here you’ll also find ‘the happiest place on earth’, Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland is a must-visit, whether you’ve visited a Disney resort before or not. Here, you’ll journey through seven fantastical lands – the Main Street, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point, and Toy Story Land – to enjoy a long list of family-friendly attractions and activities, plus a series of unmissable live shows. They’ll soon be two more Disney lands to explore, with Frozen Land and Marvel Land currently a work in progress.
Getting to Hong Kong Disneyland is easy. Simply take the Disney Resort Line from Sunny Bay Station and enjoy a 20-minute Disney-themed journey before arriving at the gates.
